Get Together

Group member, Laura, has recently returned from a trip to France and brought back several goodies that she has generously offered to share with our group, such as croissants, crusty rolls for bruchetta and mini tarts. We will round out the tasting with a few appetizer-like items (zucchini casserole and sausage/cheese rolls) and a green salad. It’s not really a dinner, so you might want to eat a light dinner before coming. This get together will be at Leona’s house on Tuesday, May 1st at 6:30. We hope you can join us for a special treat and hear about Laura’s adventures. If you would like to come, please contact us by email or phone.

For Those Of You Who Could Not Attend The Meeting…

Thank you to Elaine, who brought samples of cheese crackers which tasted just like Cheez-Its and graham crackers from Outside the Breadbox, a bakery in Colorado. Below is the order form. Elaine will be sharing this order form with the Central Coast Celiacs group this Wednesday, so there is a possibility of a bulk order. Please let us know if you are interested.

Leona shared the following:

  • Kettle Cuisine has 10 different gluten free soups available in a 10 oz serving sized microwaveable bowl. They can be found in the freezer section at Ralph’s and Whole Foods.
  • Kinnikinnick has introduced their new line of soft breads and buns that don’t require toasting, they remain soft even after freezing. They have increased the size to a regular loaf size and decreased the price. All products have at lease 5g of fiber per serving, zero cholesterol, zero trans fat, 1g or less sugar per serving, fortified with five essential ingredients, lower in sodium and no artificial color, flavor or preservatives. It comes in white and multi-grain for just under $5 for loaves, slightly less for buns.
  • She found a cookbook at Costco called The Gluten-Free Bible. The ingredients used in the cookbook tend to be typical ingredients found in your pantry. There were only a few left so it might be helpful to call ahead to make sure they still have some in stock.
  • She heard from a lady in New Jersey who has put together a cookbook called Comfort Cooking Without Grains and Refined Sugars, which has over 200 grain-, gluten- and refined sugar-free recipes. If this is something you would be interested in, it sells for $19.95 on her website.

Don’t forget the Central Coast Celiacs Meeting at New Frontiers in SLO on Wednesday, March 21st. A special guest speaker will provide up-to-date information on Osteoporosis. RSVPs required. Please see the attached flyer for more information. Central Coast Celiacs Meeting Flyer 3.21.12

Due to our wonderful experience at Thai Hut in January, we voted to hold our next meeting at Boonies Thai Food on Main Street on Tuesday, May 22nd. We will have more details as we get closer to that date.
